Bike Ypsi Invites YOU to Ride


Who: Bike Ypsi- a 100% volunteer run community based organization in Ypsilanti, MI

What: Bike Ypsi’s Seventh Annual Spring Ride and Festival

Where: Recreation Park & Senior Center Parking Lot/Pavilion, 1015 Congress Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48197

When:  Sunday May 4, 2014. 9 AM – 2 PM (activities throughout the day- details below)

Why:  Bike Ypsi holds a Spring Ride & Festival every year to welcome in the warmer months of Michigan. For our 7th Annual event, we want to raise awareness of issues related to cycling; safety, road sharing, user-friendly routes and all things related to sustainable travel. We believe that bicycling holds an important place in the development of healthy communities. We are committed to promoting cycling in the community and making Ypsilanti the most bicycle friendly city possible. Nothing does that better than a group of people outside on their bikes!

The Details:

Free bike tune-ups and registration begin at 9 a.m.

Register by 9:45

Rides: 10 a.m.

  • Rides give local riders a chance to meet, discover bike friendly routes, and gain confidence with street and group riding.                                                             
  • Country Ride: 30 mile non-supported route with road signs to keep participants on route.
  • City Ride: 15 mile painted route with guides, ideal for learning proper street and group riding tactics. Road signs on the route.
  • Guided bicycle parade around neighborhood, about 0.5 miles. Ideal for families just getting into riding bicycles, small children on their own bikes. This ride will happen around 12:30.
  • Children under 18 must ride with an adult.  Helmets required for riders under 18—highly recommended for all others.

Festivities and Parade: 11:30–1:30 p.m.                                                                                           

  • BBQ with food from the Wurst Bar, Arbor Brewing Microbrewery, Ypsilanti Food Co-op, KIND bar, Beezy’s, Cafe Ollie, Door-to-Door Organics, People’s Food Co-op, Zingerman’s Bakehouse, Zingerman’s Creamery
  • Get your bike looked at by a local bike shops & groups (Wheels in Motion & Common Cycle will be at the event the whole time!).
  • Learn great commuting routes from other local riders
  • Pinatas from Dos Hermano’s & candy from the Rocket
  • After-ride massages by Kayj Michelle, Stephanie Quarles, Janine Taylor, and Brian Truskowski
  • Bicycle Raffle! Win a Free Bike!
  • Bike Polo!
  • Check out extra-cycle and cargo bikes
  • Learn about riding with children
  • Bike decorating for kids and adults
  • Bike Photo Booth & free downloadable shots from the rides

All activities are free but we will have t-shirts available for purchase, a bike to raffle off, and donation jars for Bike Ypsi and our massage therapists.
